A Message From Jacqueli...

"It is not enough to wait for things to happen;
at times they must be provoked."
- Villaume

Thank you all, for all the
wonderful letters,
 words of encouragement and
the much appreciated
 support and prayers.
The importance and responsibility
we have of preserving our
ancestrial heritage
and the ethical value found
in our American history
is one that we should
not take lightly.
And even more so the
responsibilities
 that we share
as Lee family members
 to Our ancestors,
Our future descendants,
 and most of all
Our responsibilty to
 the American people.
This website is a tool for us all,
one that we hope will be a
catylist for positive change
to provide a ways and means
an opportunity to learn about
Our Ancestors, Our history
and Our heritage,
the values and ethics they lived by,
the principles and democracy
 they sacrificed and died for.
 An opportunity to learn about
each other,
bring unity to Our Lineage
 and the opportunity
to reverse what is negatively
effecting our Nation today.
And what we learn from this,
Our hertiage and history,
we must be ever mindful
that what we do today
 is the History of tomorrow...
The Future.
What we choose to do
or more importantly -
what we choose not to do,
will have lasting effects
on Our children and the Lee descendants
 of Our future.
Our Country's Fore Fathers,
Our Ancestors,
Our Lee Family Members ,
were the "Stone Masons"
who laid the foundation
upon which this
Great Nation stands.
And this foundation was
built and structured
to be rock solid, solidified by
Our Nations Charters.
Within each of these
sacred documents it is apparent
 the "Faith of Our Fathers"
and the guidance they sought
while in deliberation over
the context that
would govern over our Nation.
 From the Declaration of Independence,
The Constitution,
Our Bill of Rights,
the power of the words written
ring with truth and integrity.
For the "Rock Solid" foundation
they sought to build
America upon, was one meant
 to be lasting-
for they thought of the Future,
not only of themselves
and not just the times of their day,
they thought of the
generations to come,
decades and centuries, with
no end to the truth, no boundaries,
for they lived and died for the truth
they respected and held so sacred,
for they truely believed that
we would believe in it also.
Yet sadly enough,
this foundation that our Ancestors built
 Our Country upon
 has been crumbling.
The corruption within our society
has been slowly chipping away
at the very essence of
integrity upon which
 Our Nation Stands...
for example - everyday,
millions of Americans
say the oath we pledge
to our Country by giving respect
to Our Flag by saying
the "Pledge of Allegiance" -
words that have been memorized by each
and everyone of them
 most since childhood,
but did they happen to notice,
the diminishing value of these words
that were once the very heart
of our Patriotism?
"I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag
of the United States of America..."

But Americans are allowed to
burn Our flag on American soil,
allowed to brandish
 another country's flag as they
march down Our streets,
it is not the American Flag they proudly
display on their homes,
but that of another.
"...and to the Republic
for which it stands..."

Those who despise Our Democracy
are allow to teach Our youth
communistic beliefs and socialism
within our colleges and universities.
 "...One Nation under God..."
Americans are allowed to question
God's presence within Our democracy
 and challenge for the removal
of His name within Our documents
 and leadership
stating in the courts that His presence
is offensive to their beliefs.
 "...Indivisible..."
The division is apparent within
our government and society,
we are currently experiencing
 a political civil war,
a battle of Good vs Evil is evident within
our society and the world today.
"...with Liberty and Justice for All."
Yet when other countries and nations
cry out for democracy
and look to us for freedom,
Our leaders are criticized and
are told by the American people
that it is not Our problem,
yet we once stood
as the pillar of Democracy...
 and Justice has become
a commodity that can be bought
or sold to the highest bidder,
be it right or wrong,
it does not matter to these authorities,
for as long as the price is paid by those
who do not care about the truth,
 these injustices will continue.
And so will the corruption,
unless we make a choice
to do what we can and be examples.
If Richard Henry Lee,
George Washington,
Abraham Lincoln,
Thomas Jefferson,
John Adams,
Benjamin Franklin...
if all these past great Americans,
Lee family members were alive today,
what do you think they would say
about the issues
we are facing today in Our world?
What would they do
about what is happening
to America and what would they ask us to do
as American people?
We must examine Our hearts
and Our lives ask ourslves
 how we can be examples,
how can we make changes
in Our day to day lives
that can make a difference.
We are Lees, each and everyone of us,
it is Our responsibility
to unite and end the division
 and complacency that has plagued
Our family and Our Country,
it is time to join together once again
 on common ground,
become the common ground
with a common purpose...
we together can preserve
Our heritage, revive Patriotism,
restore Faith and Pride in America,
rebuild and strengthen Our Nations
foundation once again.
I believe in us, for God has used
 the Lee family
throughout Our history
 to make positive change
in creating this great country of Ours
and united He can and will use us again
 to better Our world.
Let us please join together to take
these steps in the right direction
towards Our future.

Once again,
I wish to Thank all of you
for this opportunity
 to share Our family heritage
 and history with you.
God Bless,
Jacqueli

From The Desk Of Our
Distinguished Professor Lawler...

WELCOME TO OUR SITE
AND OUR NEWSLETTER!

I say OUR site because it is
a cooperative venture
right from the start,
and because I hope you will also
want to put in your two cents worth as well,
 EQUALS = OURS.
 A newsletter may sound strange
if you stop to consider news
it what is NEW and
a lot of the site is concerned
with things that
very much static
and in very much in the past,
indeed going back over 300 years ago.
But we also are a living site
and want to include new things-
 and first, if possible
will be NEW members of the Lee family.

If you can inform us of births
and by preference link those
very NEW little people
to those in the past
(we prefer that complete families
as of this happy event be listed
with as far as possible
 full correct positive identification
so as to aid those in
the future who might want
to use this information).
 Positive ID = The 4 Wh's =
WHo did WHat,
WHen and WHere -
include when and where
as best you can and NEVER
 leave it blank-
use "about" and "of" if you must,
but place these people in time and location.

NOTE -  please the word FUTURE,
for the future indeed
is of concern to all of us
 and the future belongs
very much to those
little "new" members
of the extended Lee family.
They are our main hope; and joy.
THE FUTURE
If it were not for concern for
the future
this site would not exist.
We are concerned very strongly
with Ethics and Values,
and this is just a continuation
of what our ancestors stood for
and their concerns.
Right from the start the sons of William Lee
 had to stand up
and fight for what was theirs
(in court - within the "system"
which by the way had failed
and failed badly in their case.
 But by being persistent they
 eventually achieved justice
and got their inheritance).
We hope that you will also
be listening to these records
from the past as
"Those who do not learn from History
are doomed to repeat the mistakes
found in History"
- and
"Those who refuse to learn
from history
have no past---- AND no future".
To put it mildly
the ethics and values
of our government
have fallen to a new low.
"We have the best government
that money can buy".
I am not throwing stones
at one party or the other-
but virtually all of them.
One commentator on Radio
recently declared Washington DC
as a "Reason Free Zone"
and it would be a lot more comical
if it were a lot less true.
We are in a declared war.
It was most clearly declared on 9/11/2001
with more deaths than the Alamo,
or Pearl Harbor,
or that sinking of the Maine
which started the Spanish American war,
or WWI or numerous other wars.
And those killed on September 11th
 were civillians
not military targets -
which by the "rules of war"
 are fair game.
 I personally am unsure
about "rules of war"
 as this insanity is
outside of reason and "rules".
But this was not our choice,
and the insanity is not ours,
but those who hate the USA
enough to murder,
and destroy and attempt
to destroy US the USA
 and what we stand for,
and the heritage we are trying
to preserve by having this site.
The Lee family has been up to its eyebrows
in the formation,
 and setting
the direction of our nation.
They have always been proponents of law,
order, and justice -
leaders of ETHICS of VALUES and FAITH.
They were religious
 and proposed
that each must be allowed to follow
the dictates of his own conscience
(requiring self responsibility-
and demanding reward
or punishment = a negative reward)
for their actions,
but that neither their religion
nor anyone else's
should be rammed by
the government
down everyone else's throats.
 Religion is based upon faith,
a belief that usually cannot be proven,
but which still directs our choices.
Thus we now are faced with one religion,
 Atheism,
which IS a religion,
 abusing the courts
to ram their extreme minority faith
 (or lack of faith)
down everyone else's throat.
And the fools in black robes
seem not to realize they are inflicting
Atheism on us by force;
The exact thing which our system
was set up to prevent.
It gets worse, as they also throw
 out evidence (factual truth)
which had not been collected within arbitrary
(and often capricious)
 procedural bounds.
This place procedure as
more important than truth.
 Indeed if error were made
then remedy is required
for those errors but
corruption of truth is
hardly a correction
as that only aggravates the situation.
In cases where priests have violated
ethics and laws they have taken
property belonging to the
 people of the church
which was administered by
these errant priest and their
also negligent "superiors",
(BUT DID NOT and NEVER did belong to them)
and awarded it to the primary victims,
thus taking value from the other people
who were also secondary victims
and also harmed by these
unethical and illegal actions
and punishing them as well,
the secondary victims -
for the crimes of the out of control administrators.
How stupid can they get?
Certainly punishment is required,
but you do not punish the innocent -
in fact already victimized parties
for the wrongs of nominal leaders
who have committed the crimes.
Take aim at what those criminals value
(power & control)
and remove then from power
and do not allow them to control
anything but themselves.
The whole governmental system
is riddled with such fossilized errors.
And as happened in 1776
it is time for a revolution -
but we do not need to resort
to bloodshed and violence in that we can
"blow" the criminal out of power
every two years with a simple piece of paper,
called a ballot.
Start at home, and work upwards.
All that is required is a return to
the Ethics, Values, and Beliefs
of the past
-OF OUR PAST-
of the very people who
will appear on this site as
the "lost Lees of The Virginia Lees"
and certainly not excluding the rest of the Lee family
so aptly described
by Edmund Jennings Lee in LEE OF VIRGINIA in 1897.
So we are not concerned with the past
so much as the future and look
to stating the truth past - present and FUTURE
as a direction looking toward the future,
first foremost and always
- the FUTURE.
We do not live in the past,
we live here and now in the present,
but always must be planning for the future
by choices in what we are doing NOW,
following the success stories
to create a future that is better and happier,
and NOT to follow the errors recorded in history.
If nothing else
you can always use it as a bad example.
So everything - both good and bad-
 must be preserved and considered.
To me God is Truth.
Seek truth
and let it be your own reason guide your actions.
Which also is another way of saying
 GOD BE WITH YOU.

Genealogy Corner By Joyce Ann...

It is so exciting when you can
 find family members
that you have been searching for.
Here are some basic search
hints to help you
 find your family:

1. Gather as much information
on the person as possible -
Example: birth and death places and dates,
marriage place and date,
 children, parents, siblings, etc.

2, Always try to Google search
the person. I have found
a lot of information on
individuals I am looking for.
I also find links to others who are
 searching for the
same individual and they are
usually willing to share
information they have found.

 3. There are some great genealogy
 search sites out there.
Some are free, some have
a yearly membership cost, and
some are free but only
have a limited search.
I have recently purchased an
ancestry search software
(2006 edition) that is being
updated with a new edition.
Thru an online book store I was
able to purchase it for $24
and it came with a free one year subscription
 to Ancestry.com
( valued at $ 100 membership).
So be willing to look for many options.

4. If you know a county and/or
state of a person’s birth,
death or marriage etc.
you can search that county or
state for specific birth, death,
marriage and even cemetery info.
Also newspaper archives are
a wonderful source of information.

5. I always like to have  2 - 3 sources
for an individual before
I feel comfortable confirming
them as a relative. I have found
several family members with
 incorrect spellings of
their last name even on Census
(for example Mauk, Mock, Mauck, Mack,
 March, etc.). Sometimes it's not
easy to get sources,
but don't give up,
it’s worth your effort.

Joyce Ann will be bringing to you
helpful hints in every newsletter edition!

Jacqueli,
Looking for Job
or Joesph West,
no birthdate,
in Shrewsbury, NJ.
He was the son of
Joseph West, b. abt. 1733,
also, Shrewsbury,
and no wife's name.
Joseph was the
son of Bartholomew West,
b. 1685, Shrewsbury--wife was Ruth ?
The lineage goes
back to the 1400's.
The connection that I need
is that of Joseph West (1754-1825)
who married Elizabeth Hazard
of Philadelphia (1755-1848)
 and whether Job is Joseph.
If so, mystery solved.
Second mystery would
be that of Benjamin West,
the famous painter (1738-1820).
How does he fit
into the West clan?
He was born in Springfield, Pa.
and died in London.
He spent all of his time
between 1759-1820
in Europe or England.
Thanks for your help.

Dear Jacqueli,
I saw some information
you posted
on Ancestry that seems
 related to
research that I am doing.
Here’s what I found:
Name: Dora Holland Birth Date: 1857
Birth Place: KY Death Date:
1930 Death Place: KY
Do you have more information
about this person that
 you could share with me?
Thank you,

Hi Jacqueli,
Just saw a post you
had from Ancestry.
I am hoping you can
be of help to me.
Does the name of Daniel P. Lee,
born in Va about 1805 or so,
sound familiar to you?
He is my last known
ggggg (whatever) father.
I am stuck with him.
I have always been
told by my grandmother,
Margaret Shannon Smith,
of Philadelphia,
that her grandmother,
Sarah Lee Hopkins Smith,
was related to Robert E. Lee.
 I think everyone was
but she was very sure.
The following is
 what I know:
Daniel P. Lee born in VA about 1805
moved to Baltimore, Maryland
 about 1830
 or soon after according
to census records.
He married Susan Tarring
and lived with her
until her death.
He later married again and
moved to another
county in Maryland.
Unsure of at this time.
His daughter was
Sarah Rebecca Lee,
born in Baltimore, Md in 1857.
At some point she moved to
Philadelphia and
married Woster Hopkins,
related to Johns Hopkins (Hospital)
and after her death she married
Thomas Smith of Ireland.
They had two children together,
Thomas W.
and Rebecca Francis Smith
both born in Philly.
Thomas W. Smith married
Margaret Shannon
about 1919 in Philadelphia.
They had several children
and my mom, Jane,
was one of them.
Does any of this sound familiar
to you esp. Daniel P. Lee?
Can you help?
Would love to hear from you.
I am sure there is a connection
somewhere to be found.
I have tried all resourses known to me.
Thanks for any and all help.

Hello and thank you so much for all of your wonderful work.
 I am currently researching the
Dixon and Thurmond names. I am Jim Hewitt.
So far i have some information for Early Jackson Dixons family.
unfortunatley its not his past which i am still digging
and plan to take a trip to georgia in the next few months.
I just recently was able to get a picture of my
gg grandfather lewis c dixon.
I also know where most of that side of the
family is burried in georgia.
And i do belive that Early died in the civil war
in or around 1863 in atlanta.
I would love to share information with you.
once again thank you so much for your work!!

Jim

Hi Jacqueli,
Are any of your lines from the Wilson area ?.
This Burton Eakes has been a wall for me.
Of course after 1930 when we can no longer access the census
it becomes hard to trace people.
I am or was a Cunningham and Fannie Cunningham
married Burton Eakes in Wilson.
The children being Clyde, Herman, Clifford, Douglas and Daisy
living in Nashville, TN in 1930.

Thanks, Pam

Hi Jacqueli,
Here is what I have on William C. Dickerhoof.
His birth date is April 11, 1853 and death, June 3, 1935.
This information is according to a death certificate
that I have a copy of.
He was married to either M. E. Mills, or M. Elizabeth Mills,
or even Elizabeth Mills. I do believe they are all the same person.
She was born in Maryland on 10-28-1849, died, Kansas 6-23-1899.
The had 2 sons, John w. ( I believe your John W.)
and George C. born January 28, 1884 in Maryland.
William C. lived with John W. and his wife Lula,
it appears, after his wife died as he is on all of their later records
that I could come up with. On William C.'s death certificate it listed his father as Andrew.
I am finding that a very common name in the 1700 and 1800's
and in fact we named one of our sons Andrew as well, interesting?
This should be all the info that I have. Hope this gives some help.
I so much appreciate any info you can give me.

Thank you,
Marilyn

I have recently discovered that I am
descended from William Henry Lee
(born in 1752 in Virginia) through his son,
Asel Asa Lee (born 1778), I was wondering
if you have any information about these two people,
and possible ways they may connect to the Lee family.
I have been told all my life that I'm related to this family
(my great grandmother is a Lee),
but I can't find any records linking me conclusively.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
 Megan Greene

Note Worthy...
Letters From Our Readers...

Hello

My name is James Hewitt
and Fairer B Dixon is my mothers GAunt.
I only have the info as of right
now of her family up to me.
Her brothers and sisters and
most but not all of their children.
I would love to help in any way possible.
Please keep up your amazing work!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so very much

Hi,
I noticed your family tree that included
Isaac Neely Brown born 1847 KY.
He was my ancestor (2g grandfather).
Please email me if you'd like to
compare notes, etc.
Thanks,

Gary Carson

I see Lucy Ann Stoner Daggy
 (Franklin's mother) in your tree
- she is also in mine -
her parents were Peter (Jr.)
and Mary Stoner of Greencastle, Indiana -
you can find a reference to her in (Ancestry)-
Weik's History of Putnam County Indiana,
under Lycurgus Stoner (her brother) -
the entire family is listed there.
Lucy's sister, Sarah Jane, was my gggrandmother.
I would be happy to share
any information I have that
might be of interest to you.

Hi Jacqueli,
Thank you so very much!!!
So we are related to the Lee's
not through the Lee's in our family
but the Stouts.
In the kinship of Robert E Lee,
I couldn't find anyone
we were related to
or any names that I could relate to.
Would it be to much to ask if
you could tell me how my Stouts
and Richard Henry Lee are related,
and which Stout it is.
The kinship of Hannah Lee was great.
Thanks.
Do you have a book
that you wrote?
How can I find out how my family
goes back to the 1100's like your does?
I really appreciate your help!!
Thanks,

Wadeanne and Nick

Thank you so much Jacqueli

Ernie and Cathy Shultz

WOW! Is all I have to say.
I have been researching on
and off for 50 years
and I have found this is
the case in most lines….
People marry close persons…
close persons tend to be somehow related.
I am glad for your “soap box”
because I have been on one for years.
You are my very first break…
and I did cry when I found this web page.
I have been looking through letters,
papers, old things of 3 generations
trying to find where my
great grandfather came from,
who he was and his heritage.
I know we had family on my other side
fighting on both sides of the Civil War.
One relative on the Monitor,
one on the Merrimac…
shooting at each other.
I am sure their mother’s
would have been proud.!
Anyway, the one side of our
family made bathtub hooch…
and were whiskey runners.
Thus, comes our lust for “speed”.
I have relatives in Roodhouse where
were successful in bringing
the railroad to that part of Illinois,
thus my grandsons and their trains…
we have traveled all
over the west riding on trains…
 this also meant that Grandma
fought for Thomas the Train things.
I have even stooped so low as to pay an
engineer in Nevada to allow t
hem to ride in the engine…
and yes the whistle cord.
 Families are great.
 I really appreciate your sharing.
This gives me chills knowing
that we are from Virginia .
My son, who is living there
with his five children,
has fallen in love with the land,
the people and has been drawn there…
he was telling me this
January of his love for the land…
it draws him in…
So this will probably give him
some answers as to his feelings.
He will be thrilled.
You may get an email from him.
His name is Shane Leavitt…
he may have many more questions.
We all have been to Virginia …
it is a most beautiful place.
Walking around the two old colleges,
visiting the battle grounds…
the words written there are overwhelming…
the feelings of reverence…
Anyway, I thank you for your help
and I am sure I will have much more …
as soon as I get this much digested.
It was more than
I could have ever hoped for.

Sherry Hansen

Dear Jacqueli,
I enjoyed looking
at your e-book.
I was shocked when
I started looking at it
and saw Dr. Jim Lawler
written about on your site.
I got started doing
genealogy a year ago Feb.
I had gone to my cousin's in Iowa f
or her granddaughters baptism.
While we were visiting, I mentioned
that I had the Porter family history
(our grandmother's family)
 and she said she had
never seen such a thing.
Then we got to talking about
our grandfather Calvin H. Stout
and realized we knew nothing of him.
They say go to your oldest
relative to start your genealogy,
so we went to our uncle Jim who
is Calvin and Neva's youngest son.
 My father and my cousin's
father are no longer living,
as well as their two sister's.
Uncle Jim didn't know a thing.
This was frustrating as he is only 65.
Well we were set, we were going to find
out what we could about the Stout family.
Neither of us had ever done a thing
like this before, but we were ready.
We collected research for months
and presented each family with a notebook
containing all the family
history we were able to find.
I found some work that Dr. Lawler did
on the Stout family at familysearch.org.
He had his name and address listed,
so I sat down and wrote him.
I had found a mistake.
 Ebenezer Stout was down as
being married 28 Apr 1825
and his son is down as
being married 10 Apr 1828.
That is just a three year
difference for father and son.
 Jim was surprised
I had caught the mistake,
 and called
(one year ago, the day before Easter).
My husband and I own
a photography studio.
I was at home with
the kids and grandchild.
Jim spoke to Dean.
Dean took some notes,
but Dean can't remember past his
brothers and sister
when it comes to family,
so he was basically lost.
Jim gave Dean his
phone number and email
and asked that I call him.
I phoned him, but when I did,
 I think I woke him.
It took him a while to wake,
but we spent about thirty minutes
 on the phone
and he gave me a lesson
 on how to do genealogy.
 I was sorry I didn't get the
facts he'd talked to Dean about,
but I was thrilled to
speak to him just the same.
I have found a record that Ebenezer
and Levinah were married 28 April 1825.
Another thing
I question is Ebenezer's son William.
He is down as being
married to Rachel Hobbs,
On the census records from 1860,
he is listed with a wife Louisa.
I have found that they
are buried near me,
at the Clear Creek Cemetery,
Davies Co. MO.
I plan to go up there this
summer and take pictures.
Louisa was born 13 Aug 1812
and died 27 Apr 1889.
 My records for Rachel say
she was born 1814 but died 1860.
Maybe Louisa is a second wife.
I have Rachel and William down
with two sons William P and Calvin.
Louisa and William have 6 sons
James, Calvin, William.
Alfred, John and Lafayette.
My cousin and I traveled to the
St. Joseph, MO Library
over Memorial Day weekend.
That is were Otto Franklin and
Lydia Nora Gann Stout moved to and died.
We were able to locate their
graves along with
several of their children.
We photographed them and printed
all their obits from microfilm.
We even found an article where our
grandfather Calvin H. had a brother Virgil
who was crushed in a rock quarry.
Also in my quest I have
connected with another cousin
who is a descendant of Charles Stout,
Otto's brother.
He was good enough
to share all sorts of pictures.
He also sent me all the
family history from his
branch of the tree.
It has truly been wonderful.
I will be more than willing to
share anything I have with you.
I just got my family posted on the
one world tree on Ancestry.com
It is posted under deanstudio.
I do not have all the children listed f
or all the different families,
but I will work on it and
get it posted soon.
 I am new at the
family history software.
I am very lucky that I live close
 to Livingston and Davies Counties
as well as St. Joseph, MO.
It has made my research
on the Stout family
much easier from Calvin down.
I hope I haven't rambled on too long,
I love doing the genealogy and
get carried away talking about it.

Do you have any information

Prayer For The Soldier...

I want you to close your eyes
and picture in your mind
the soldier at Valley Forge,
as he holds his musket in his bloody hands.
He stands barefoot in the snow,
starved from lack of food,
wounded  from the months of battle
and emotionally scarred
by the eternity away from his family,
surrounded by
nothing but the death and carnage of war.
He stands though.
With fire in his eyes
and victory in his breath.

He looks at us now in anger and disgust
and tells us this...

"I fought in the snow barefoot
to give you the freedom to vote,
and you stay at home
because it rains. I left my family destitute
to give you the freedom of speech
and you remain silent on critical issues,
because it might be bad for business.
I orphaned my children
to give you a government
to serve you
and it has stolen democracy
from the people..."

It is the Soldier,
not the reporter
who gives you the freedom of press.
It is the Soldier,
not the poet
who gives you the freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier,
not the campus organizer
who allows you to demonstrate.
It is the Soldier
who salutes the Flag,
Serves the Flag,
and whose coffin
is draped with the Flag
that allows
the protester
to burn the Flag!

"...Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need.  I ask this in the name of Jesus,
Our Lord and Savior, Amen."

Prayer taken from sermon by
Pastor John Hagee

Historical Sites In
     Lee Family History...

Each Newsletter - we will be taking
a historic tour across our Country
to visit locations monumental to our
Lee family heritage.
In this edition we proudly bring to you
Jamestown, Virginia -  2007 earmarks the
400 year anniversary of the establishment
of Jamestown as the first settlement
in America...

Jamestown, located on
Jamestown Island
in the Virginia Colony,
was founded on
 May 14, 1607. Jamestown
is commonly
regarded as the first
permanent English settlement
in what is now the United States,
following many
earlier failed attempts,
notably including the
ongoing mystery of
the Lost Colony at
Roanoke Island
in what is now the state of
North Carolina.
Jamestown (originally also
called "James Towne" or "Jamestowne")
is located on the James River
 in what is currently
James City County
in the Commonwealth of
Virginia.
The site is about 40 miles
(62 km) inland
from the Atlantic Ocean
 and the entrance to the
Chesapeake Bay
and about 45 miles (70 km)
downstream and southeast
of the current state
capital city of Richmond.
Both the river and the
settlement were named for
 King James I of England,
who granted the
private proprietorship to the
Virginia Company
of London's enterprise.
The location at Jamestown Island
was selected
primarily because it offered
 a favorable strategic
defensive position
 against other European forces
which might approach by water.
However, the
colonists soon discovered
that the swampy and
isolated site was plagued by mosquitoes,
 brackish tidal river water
unsuitable for drinking,
and offered limited opportunities
for hunting and little space forfarming.
Perhaps the best thing about it was that it
was not inhabited by Native American
{"American Indian"} tribes
that lived nearby.
Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom
and her consort Prince Phillip inspect
replica of Susan Constant
at Jamestown Festival Park
in Virginia on October 16, 1957
However, beginning in 1893,
a combination of donations
and federal funds resulted
in the acquisition of
Jamestown Island by
the Association for the Preservation
of Virginia Antiquities
and the U.S. National Park Service.
A crucial sea wall protected
the shoreline near the site of
James Fort from further erosion.
In the 1930s,
the Colonial National Historical Park
was established to
protect and administer Jamestown,
which was designated
a National Historic Site.
For the 350th anniversary in 1957,
Jamestown itself was the site
of renewed interest and
a huge celebration.
The National Park Service provided
new access with the completion
of the Colonial Parkway
which led to Williamsburg,
home of the restored
capital of Colonial Williamsburg,
and then on to Yorktown,
the other two portions of
Colonial Virginia's Historic Triangle.
Major projects such as the
Jamestown Festival Park were
developed by non-profit,
state and federal agencies.
Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain
and Prince Philip attended.
The 1957 event was a great success.
Tourism became continuous
with attractions regularly
updated and enhanced.
The two major attractions at Jamestown
are separate, but complementary
 to each other.
The state-sponsored Jamestown Settlement
near the entrance to Jamestown Island
includes a recreated English Fort
and Native American Village,
extensive indoor and outdoor
displays, and features
the three popular replica ships.
On Jamestown Island itself,
 the National Park Service operates
Historic Jamestowne.
Over a million artifacts have
been recovered by the
Jamestown Rediscovery project
with ongoing archaeological work,
including a number
of exciting recent discoveries.
Early in the 21st century,
in preparation for the upcoming
Jamestown 2007 event
commemorating
America's 400th Anniversary,
new accommodations,
transportation facilities
and attractions were planned.
The celebration began
in the Spring of 2006
with the sailing of a new replica
Godspeed to six major East Coast U.S. cities,
where several
hundred thousand people viewed it.
Major corporate sponsors
of Jamestown 2007 include
Norfolk Southern Corporation,
Verizon Communications,
and Anheuser-Busch.
Late in 2006,
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip announced
their intentions to pay another
state visit to Jamestown in May 2007.

We  Are Proud To
   Present...
   "The Constitution Of
      The United States Of America"

The Federal Convention convened in
the State House (Independence Hall)
in Philadelphia on May 14, 1787,
to revise the Articles of Confederation.
Because the delegations from only
two states were at first present,
the members adjourned from day to day
until a quorum of seven states was
obtained on May 25. Through discussion
and debate it became clear by mid-June that,
rather than amend the existing Articles,
the Convention would draft an entirely
new frame of government. All through
the summer, in closed sessions,
the delegates debated, and redrafted
the articles of the new Constitution.
Among the chief points at issue were
how much power to allow the
central government, how many
representatives in Congress to allow
each state, and how these representatives
should be elected--directly by the people or
by the state legislators. The work of
 many minds, the Constitution stands
as a model of cooperative statesmanship

and the art of compromise.

A "Must Read"...

Lee of Virginia
Author: Edmund Jennings Lee
(1642-1892)

Biographical and Genealogical
Sketches of the Descendants of
Colonel Richard Lee.
With Brief Notices of the Related
Families of Allerton,
Armistead, Ashton, Aylett, Bedinger,
Beverley, Bland,
Bolling, Carroll, Carter, Chambers,
Corbin, Custis,
Digges, Fairfax, Fitzhugh, Gardner,
Grymes, Hanson,
Jenings, Jones, Ludwell, Marshall,
Mason, Page,
Randolph, Shepherd, Shippen, Tabb,
Taylor, Turberville,
Washington, and Othe.

The Lee family boasts perhaps the
most distinguished
ancestry on record, having provided,
for example, greater
numbers of Revolutionary and
Civil War generals and officers,
politicians, and statesmen than any
family of comparable size
and standing. Colonel Richard Lee,
Secretary of the Colony of Virginia and
presumably a Counsellor to King Charles,
was the progenitor of the Virginia Lees
and was himself
descended from the Coton branch
of the Lees of Shropshire.
The purpose of this volume is to
collect and preserve in
permanent form the history of
Colonel Lee's posterity,
believing that such a record will
add something of interest
to American history.

The arrangement of this exhaustive work
is as follows: the life of Colonel Lee is traced
as well as existing
records would allow, with each of his children
and grandchildren
and succeeding descendants being
treated in like manner.
As only three of the immigrant's sons
have been proven to have
left surviving male issue in Virginia, and
as the issue of these three
sons form three distinct lines of descent,
they are treated separately.
Under the notice of each head of a family,
the names of his children
are given, numbered in the order of their birth.
Whatever is known
as to unmarried sons, and as to all daughters,
is given with their parents.
That equal prominence might be
given to maternal ancestry,
brief sketches of the parentage of wives
of the Lees of the older
generations are added. The records upon
which these sketches
are based have been taken from wills,
deeds, family Bibles,
tombstone inscriptions, and
similar authorities.
Coats of arms or other heraldic
representations are
reproduced throughout the work
wherever it was possible
to determine that such coat-armor
was actually used.
Other textual illustrations, of which
there are more than
thirty full-page portraits alone,
are derived from family portraits,
miniatures, engravings, and photographs.
No individual, no institution,
no library with an interest in
American history and genealogy
ought to be without
a copy of this illuminating
and inspiring family history.

September 11, 2001

May We NEVER Forget!!!!

Yet,
it seems that some Americans
have forgotten.
 Directly after the terrorist attacks
of September 11th, 2001,
 in the days and months
 that followed,
there did not seem to be a home,
an automobile on the street,
or a business that was not
proudly displaying
the American Flag.
 Signs went up on bridges,
buildings,
 and all along our
 Country's highways
and freeways
 billboards proudly stated
"God Bless America!",
"United We Stand!"
and "Support Our Troops!"
 Not to mention
the American population
thought it fashionable to be wearing
our Country's Patriotic Red,
White and Blue colors,
 T-shirts, earings, shoes and more,
all with renditions of Patriotic themes
or displaying our American Flag.
 Songs were sung
and poetry was written,
commercials were made,
 books were published
 and it seemed as if
all fellow Americans
 were overtaken with
American Pride
 and love for our Country.
 Our eyes were opened.
 Our hearts were right
with the truth.
And for the first time in centuries
our Country was united.
Brotherhood and compassion
 for one another abound.
It did not matter what  religion,
 race, age or gender,
and even within
our government
there was a unity
inspite of which
 political party was
 being represented.
We were all proud to be Americans.
 We stood up for ourselves,
We stood up for each other,
We stood up for the truth,
We stood up for Justice,
We stood up for our Country
We stood up for our President,
and gave him our trust.
 We showed our Nations Strength.

Almost 6 years later...

Where are all the flags?
Where are the songs and poetry?
Where are the billboards and signs
 displaying our Patriotism?
Where is the truth in politics?
Where is the justice
within our government?
When did saying "God Bless America"
become discreminatory?
 Where is the support
for our military?
Where is the trust in our President?
 Where is our strength?
Where is our unity
and common ground?

September 11th 2001
did happen,
can and will
most likely happen again.
We are not weak
and feeble minded people!
We are a strong and mighty Nation!
 We are the common ground.
We must open our eyes again
and remember.
Each and every one of us
can make a difference.
We must take what has been placed
in the back of our minds
and bring in to the front
and center again.
Our priorities.

 As Americans
we must prepare ourselves,
 our families,
 our children,
 our neighbors
 and communities.
Because we care about you
and saving as many lives as possible,
we would like to suggest

as that of 9/11.

the terrorists

the U.S.
soon returned
to the illusion
of peace and security
and confusion
 of purpose
that had marked
the Clinton era,
when the Jihad
first began
to strike against
our America.
Because of
the campaign
by the
“anti-war”
movement,
our populace as a whole
is ignorant
of the threat,
doesn’t know
 the enemy,
and is unaware of
their true intent,
 capabilities
and resolve.
This is especially true
of college students
who face
a daily barrage
of anti-war
 and anti-American
propaganda.
 The Terrorism Awareness Project
 is designed to
make them aware
 of the threat of jihad
and the struggle
that lies ahead
if this nation is
to survive its assault.

may better
protect themselves
through safety
and security planning;
 builds partnerships with residents,
law enforcement,
first responders
 and community service providers;
and identifies
ways citizens
 can actively participate
 in creating safer

TERRORISM & SCHOOL SAFETY
School security and
emergency planning
strategies for preventing
 and responding to terrorism
TERRORISM & SCHOOL SAFETY:
 SCHOOL SAFETY
ISSUES RELATED TO
THE TERRORIST ATTACKS
ON THE UNITED STATES
Our thoughts and prayers
go out to the victims,
 their families,
the responding
 public safety officials
and our nation as a whole
in the aftermath of the
 tragic terrorist attacks
on Americans on
Tuesday, September 11, 2001,
 and subsequent terrorism threats.
As our nation moves forward
with the war on terrorism,
 National School Safety
 and Security Services
has received requests
from school officials,
parents and the media
for terrorism and
school safety issues
 to consider as they
support their students,
 staff and school community
 during these difficult times.
It important to remember
that no single strategy,
or even a collection of
 multiple strategies fits,
all school and
school-community situations,
 and that district
and building specific guidelines
 for managing
emergency situations
 must be individually
developed,
 trained, tested
and exercised.
Items for discussion
and consideration
as schools develop
their security
 and emergency/crisis plans
may include:
 The Terrorist Threat to Schools:
 Ostrich-Syndrome,
Naysayers, and Reality
 Heightened school security procedures
 during terrorist threats
Biological & chemical threats
(including anthrax, mail handling)
General recommendations related to terrorism
 and school safety
 9/11 anniversary issues
National School Resource Officer surveys
 on terrorism & school safety

In 1954, on Flag Day, when
President Dwight D. Eisenhower
( a Lee family member)
approved adding the words "under God"
to Our
"Pledge of Allegiance"
.As he authorized this change he said:

"In this way we are reaffirming
the transcendence of religious faith
in America's heritage and future;
in this way we shall constantly strengthen
those spiritual weapons which forever
will be our country's most powerful
resource in peace and war."

Once again,
Something
